In THIS Economy? Why We Need Gendered Solutions to Our Economic Crisis.

And we have kick off - ‘In this Economy? Why we need Gendered Solutions to our Economic Crisis’. First speaker is Maureen O’Reilly from The Northern Ireland Fiscal Council.

Next up, we heard from Lisa Wilson from The Nevin Economic Research Institute speaking about the recent budget. Will the money set aside for childcare have any impact in NI?

Then, Dr Anne Devlin spoke on how Northern Ireland doesn’t work in the way we expect. Policy levers not similar to other devolved regions & short-term decision making all issues.

Next, was Ann Marie Gray, Professor of Social Policy at Ulster University speaking on the gendered inequity of government investment in skills and training in relation to care - an area that is highly skilled but not valued. Average earnings for females in workforce - £15,966 annually.

Our final speaker of this session was Paul Mac Flynn, co-director of The Nevin Economic Research Institute discussing how a real wage crisis has existed for 20 years. Male and female wages have aligned, via the reduction of male wages #levellingdown.

Moving onto our political panel - ‘In this economy: Why we need gendered solutions to our economic crisis’ chaired by Kellie Turtle, we welcomed Sorcha Eastwood Alliance Party, Cathy Mason Sinn Féin, Claire Hanna MP and Julie-Anne Corr-Johnston UUP.

Thanks to everyone for coming and to all our speakers!
